Experience

Overview

Ellen Throop brings nearly three decades of legal experience to the firm’s Community Association practice group. A seasoned attorney, she has represented condominiums, homeowners’ associations, and housing cooperatives in a wide range of matters. Ellen advises community associations on litigation, governance, rules and covenant enforcement, and developer transitions. She also has a strong background in insurance defense, representing associations and other clients in complex civil litigation.

Ellen is actively involved in the legal and community association fields beyond her practice. She serves on the Maryland Attorney Grievance Panel, the Maryland Legislative Action Committee, and the Community Associations Institute (CAI) Delmarva and Strategic Planning Committees. She also chairs the CAI Expo Committee and was honored as Educator of the Year in 2024 by the CAI Chesapeake Chapter, recognizing her commitment to professional development and industry education.

Ellen lives in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, with her husband, son, and two cats. In her personal time, she is a competitive tennis player and enjoys warm beaches, caring for animals, cooking, roasting coffee, and crafting with her Cricut.
