Overview

Jessica Lawless-Barnes joined the Community Associations practice group at Rees Broome in 2016.  Her practice exclusively focuses on community association clients in Virginia and D.C., including homeowners', condominium, and cooperative owners’ associations.   Jessica assists community association clients in a wide variety of matters, including, but not limited to:

  • Interpreting and complying with Governing Documents
  • Regulatory compliance with applicable state and federal codes
  • Contract review and negotiation
  • Updating and amending Governing Documents
  • Covenants enforcement actions and collection of delinquent accounts
  • FHA Certification and Re-certification

Jessica has zealously and successfully advocated for clients across jurisdictions in Northern Virginia and DC in enforcement issues and delinquency actions alike.  In addition, she has successfully worked with many clients to recommend and implement policies to promote homeowner compliance with Governing Documents and reduce homeowner delinquency in the most efficient and economic means possible for a client.

Prior to joining Rees Broome, Jessica's practice focused on commercial litigation, collections law and creditor's rights matters across Northern Virginia and the District of Columbia.  Jessica regularly worked on commercial and retail debt collections cases, advocating for creditors to optimize collection efforts under the relevant state code.  In addition, Jessica regularly advised clients on their options under the US Bankruptcy Code and state creditor’s rights law and, when necessary, represented creditor clients in adversary default litigation.
