On September 19, 2017, the Arlington County Board amended the County's animal ordinance to ban the keeping of wild and exotic animals as pets.

The change allows all County animal control officers to take some actions previously enforceable only by state officials. The change also better aligns Arlington County with the laws of neighboring jurisdictions.  The change provides a grandfathering provision for certain existing wild and exotic animals kept as pets, provided the owner goes through the County's registry system.

To see the list of prohibited animals, please visit the County website here.

For Arlington County community associations, these changes will provide another enforcement mechanism against those residents who maintain prohibited animals within their homes or condominium units.
