Legal Assistant – Floater – TYSONS

Department: Administration

Reports To: Legal Assistant Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY

The Floater Legal Assistant contributes to the efficient operation of the firm by assisting attorneys, other legal personnel and professional staff with administrative, technical and organizational tasks.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Depending on specific assignment, provide administrative, organizational and technical support that may include, but is not limited to:

  • Providing back-up support to other legal assistants in the community association practice group
  • Proofreading work product for typographical, grammatical or spelling errors;
  • Managing attorney calendar and assist in meeting deadlines;
  • Maintaining positive professional contact with clients and court officials;
  • Assisting attorneys or paralegals with the preparation and filing of court documents, legal correspondence, and/or transmittal documents;
  • Assisting with mailing of letters and monthly bills.
  • Fielding incoming telephone calls, and scheduling meetings and conference rooms;
  • Prioritizing workload in an efficient and effective manner;
  • Providing coverage of front desk (as needed);
  • Participating in ongoing training sessions to enhance his/her technical skills;
  • Maintaining a neat and orderly workplace;
  • Keeping legal assistant manager abreast of current issues and potential problems as they develop; seeks advice as needed;
  • Assist with overall office support and other duties that may be assigned as needed by attorneys and the legal assistant superior.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficient use and utilization of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and iManage Work; and operation of standard office equipment including printers, copiers, facsimile and telephone equipment;
  • Must be able to complete designated tasks within specified time limits; organization and multi-tasking a must;
  • Must be dependable and take direction well;
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a professional work environment, preferably in a law firm.
  • Experience with collections is highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Rees Broome, PC, a Top 20 law firm in Virginia, is recruiting for an associate with 2-4 years of general collections experience to assist our community association and HOA clients in our Community Association practice group. This position offers competitive compensation and generous bonus plan. The firm actively engages in its associates’ professional growth. Candidates must be licensed in Virginia.

Our ideal candidate will have 2-4 years’ experience practicing general collections work for banks or other creditors, exceptional research and communication skills, a strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously and excellent academic credentials.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a caseload of 250-400 active collection cases from initial intake to closing of files
  • Work closely with paralegals, administrative assistants and Shareholders on collection case load
  • Review and interpret client documents and draft legal opinions for Shareholder review
  • Regularly handle court appearances in multiple jurisdictions and handle abatement court cases for enforcement of covenants
  • Routinely communicate with community association clients and their management agents and provide routine status reports
  • Manage billing of hourly time and via task codes for fixed fee collections work
  • Routinely attend on-site meetings at client community associations to oversee elections and Board meetings
     

Qualifications:

  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice in Virginia.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in collections
  • Experience with collections, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act compliance, district court, and post-judgment enforcement
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Legal project management experience is helpful
  • Prior experience managing paralegals and other staff
